Former Florida neighborhood watch worker Geroge Zimmerman is not receiving much good press these days from his estranged wife as reports claim she now questions whether he maliciously killed slain teenager Trayvon Martin last year.

In a new interview, Shellie Zimmerman cites a recent attack on her father as a major turning point for her perception of George.

Shellie Zimmerman — who stood solidly by husband George Zimmerman during his trial for gunning down Trayvon Martin — now says she has doubts about George’s innocence. Shellie — who’s in the middle of a nasty divorce — appeared on the “Today” show, saying “I think anyone would doubt [George’s] innocence, because I don’t know the person that I’ve been married to.” As for why Shellie’s changing her tune … she says it’s all about the incident at their home this month when she called cops and claimed George was threatening her with a gun. She admits she never saw a weapon… but saw George with his hand inside his shirt … and “a look in his eyes” that she’d never seen before. (TMZ)

Mrs. Zimmerman went on to admit she no longer has a grip on who George really is.

“I didn’t see a gun, but I know my husband,” she said. “I saw him in a stance and a look in his eyes that I’ve never seen before. His shirt was half-way unbuttoned and he was putting his hand in his shirt and saying, ‘Please step closer, please step closer.’ So I think that just logically I assumed he had a gun on him.” She added later: “This person that I’m married to and that I’m divorcing, I kind of realize now that I don’t know him and I really don’t know what he’s capable of.” George Zimmerman hasn’t stayed at the home since then, and his whereabouts are unknown even to his wife and her attorney. Recently, an audio clip surfaced featuring Shellie claiming George was threatening her and her father.

In a call to 911, George Zimmerman’s wife can be heard telling police Monday that Zimmerman was sitting in a car outside her home with “his hand on his gun and saying, ‘Step closer.’ ” “Dad, get inside the house! George might start shooting at us, I don’t know,” Shellie Zimmerman can be heard telling her father, according to a 911 recording released as police swarmed the Zimmerman home in Lake Mary, Fla., to investigate. As of a couple of hours after the 911 call, Zimmerman was not under arrest but was in “investigative custody,” which means he can’t leave the scene until police are done investigating, Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell said in a phone interview with the Los Angeles Times. Bracknell said Zimmerman was being cooperative. (Los Angeles Times)

On the call, the Florida resident also revealed how concerned she was for her family’s safety.

“He’s just threatening all of us with his firearm, and he’s gonna shoot us,” she said on the call. “He punched my dad in the nose, my dad has a mark on his face, I saw his glasses on the floor. He accosted my father, and took my iPad out of my hand, and smashed it and cut it with a pocket knife.” She added, “He just showed up here…. I’m really, really afraid…. I don’t know what he’s capable of, I’m really scared.” (Los Angeles Times)

This all came days after Mrs. Zimmerman filed for divorce from him.

Shellie Zimmerman, 26, filed for divorce last Thursday, her lawyer said. She sought the divorce after she said last week in an interview with ABC News that the trial had strained their marriage of six years. John Donnelly, a family friend who testified in George Zimmerman’s defense at trial, said that Shellie was “devastated” when her husband “just packed up and left” after his acquittal and was gone for a month without telling anyone his whereabouts. Shellie had lost touch with him and had grown increasingly upset, Donnelly said. (Chicago Tribune)
