Former Bad Boy Records artist G-Dep reportedly tasted some freedom recently after being granted a temporary release from his 15 years to life prison sentence to attend his father’s funeral.

According to reports, G-Dep (Trevell Coleman) attended his dad’s service and also had an opportunity to see his children.

“Dep’s father’s passing was sadly over shadowed by the excitement we felt. Dep has not seen his sons in a little over 4 years,” Dep’s wife Crystal Sutton revealed in an interview. “Yes he calls regularly and he sees pictures of them growing, but being in their presence, the same room, next to each other is such a different feel. The days leading up to his arrival were stressful for me. I didn’t eat, I could hardly sleep. I was on a mission, the boys had to see their father and nothing could interfere, sadly and I do feel bad for this, not even the death of his father William “Butch” Goines.” (AHH)

According to Dep’s wife, he only had an hour to attend the funeral service.

“They finally had the chance to sit down with their father, shackled or not I could see that they were determined. All that nervous energy seemed to melt away. They both showed him video after video of animations they had made. Visitors gained Trevell’s attention for a moment, but the boys made sure that their father stayed close. Our time was up, Trevell had to go back. That one hour visit felt like 10 minutes. I could see the expression on the boys face change from happy to a worried look.” (AHH)

Dep spoke out on confessing to an early 1990’s fatal shooting and, ultimately, receiving his hefty sentence back in 2012.

The jury’s decision to convict Coleman pushed both his wife and his mother to tears. But when Coleman returned to Rikers and got on the telephone, nobody could believe how he sounded. “He’s like, ‘Hey, how you doing, man?’?” says Jonathan “Kwame” Owusu, who was his manager. “He was upbeat. It didn’t make any sense.” Three weeks later, a judge sentenced him to fifteen years to life. “I was happy,” Coleman recalls. “It sounds crazy to say you were happy about getting a fifteen-to-life sentence, but I was. It just seemed to me like the end of a nightmare … I was living in 1993 for seventeen years.” (NY Mag)

Following the sentencing news, New York producer Dame Grease hit up SOHH with his reaction.

“I know G. Dep personally,” Grease told SOHH. “Even though probably after [confessing] he was sick about it, the whole confession was just a thing to clear his soul. I look at things differently, you know what I’m saying? When you see a man going through things, you can see something’s weighing down on him. I guess that was the thing. I just wish him all the best of luck. He’s got good fans, good friends and support for during his bid. He’s a good guy, overall. Hopefully he’ll get out on an early release.” (SOHH)

    • The same way millions of boys become men each yr without a father. My father was a junkie. I learned from his mistakes, not repeat them.

      • Before anything I say from the heart sorry for that not that words can or will help but sorry…
        with
that said you learn from your dad what i learned from my mom and its
the best lesson they could have taught us and thats not to be them point
        blank…..

        • sohh will not allow me to respond i did not use bad words but for some reason they are monitoring me so i cant say all that i want

        • sure any body with enough heart can make things happen…but in life before we can be we must be made by a man and a women…so while i understand that attachment is not needed to grow…God made us in his image and its that thought that help many of us get by….even though not all believe for those that do having that thought that your being watched by one that only wants you to be good helps

      • Think of all that you’ve been able to do now think what if you had a protector and a fan…to guide you to push and if needed to stop you by physical means…I love my dad and if you have that kind of love for your mom thats cool i get it respect…but wonder if you will, how much more we both could have been with a complete house…..Bless
