[Fresh Kid Ice was one of the early West Coast hip-hop pioneers dating back to 1984 with the legendary group 2 Live Crew which in 1986 along with Mr. Mixx, Brother Marquis, and Luke were the first rap group to go gold independently. Fast forward millions of album sales and 30 years later and Fresh Kid Ice remains true to his roots by dropping an independent compilation Breaking Glass Ceilings. Ice was recently on the Murder Master Music Show and he brought along West Coast Legend Threi of Ice Cube’s Da Lench Mob, Miami legend JT Money of the Poison Clan and Chinaman Recording artists Monte Cristoe, Drill’em Out, Fame Faeilla, and Boi Durty for a dope round table!]

1. 2 Live Crew’s History

2 Live Crew formed in 1984 in California at March Air Force Base. The first single we recorded was in November or December of ’84. Then we went to Macola Records and started our own record label which was Fresh Beat Records. We went to Miami in ’85 and met Luther Campbell because he brought us down for shows. In ’86 we decided to stay in Miami and start something different. We recorded Throw the D and that started Luke Skyywalker Records and everything else is history. Going gold, I think it was timing and foreseeing the future because this is something that I had dreamed about when I was a kid. I wanted to rap! When we put that stuff out we got lucky in a kind of way because a lot of people at that time there weren’t doing different things and rap was still independent. Once I got out the Military I gave myself 6 months with the rap thing, and if I didn’t make it I was gonna go back to Brooklyn and become a lab tech like what I trained for in the Military. Independently

2. Breaking Glass Ceilings

What we wanted to do was put some veteran artists along with some new school artists so the veterans could teach them how to go about it. We are Breaking Glass Ceilings coming out the box trying to make things happen for everybody. On there we got JT Money, Lench Mob Threi and OG Chilli Chill, Fame Faiella, Monte Cristoe, Drill’em Out, Boi Durty, and some of everything on there.

3. JT Money Talks Working W/ Fresh Kid Ice

It feels right! I’m honored, happy, and proud. I rock with Fresh Kid Ice and the whole crew. Just for my brother to call me and say “I got somethin’, I’m like, hell yeah! Chris is a smart dude! Hopefully by us doing this it will show some of our other brothers how it’s suppose to go and lead the younger fellas the right way! I’m rockin’ with big bro and I’m proud to do it!

4. Fresh Kid Ice Heading To The Insane Clown Posse’s Washington, DC Juggalo March

The Juggalos always been good to me, so I gotta go support that! They say the Juggalos are one of the top ten gangs in America so we gotta go support ’em and let’em know it’s a family. I know they are gonna go support. I have to accept it because Joe and Joey are my friends and I support the Psychopathic Family. I wanna take artists from the Breaking Glass Ceilings down there and we’ll perform in DC in March , I hope Da Lench Mob and JT Money goes with me and we’ll give the Juggalos a hellavua show.

5. Da Lench Mob’s Threi Remembers DJ Crazy Toones

That’s right in the house, I gotta say Rest in Peace to my Nigga! That’s my loved one right there. That’s an intricate piece to the whole car and they blew the trunk off the back, we all took that one real hard. If nobody in the game don’t know that n*gga Toones is the most peaceful and humble, that n*gga is music! I gotta drink something tonight for Toones!
