Bad Boy Entertainment’s French Montana recently reflected on late protégé Chinx and called his posthumous Welcome To JFK 2015’s best hip-hop album.

In Montana’s opinion, Chinx’s summer release had the most meaning amongst other notable projects.

“I feel like the [album with] biggest impact was Chinx’s album,” Montana says. “I watched him come up, and get to this point (rest in peace) before he passed away. He dropped his album and it was just like, I loved the work. I was with him the whole time.” (Billboard)

Summer reports claimed New York police were still looking for Chinx’s murderer.

The NYPD is offering $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of the gunman who killed rapper Chinx in a drive-by shooting, police said Wednesday. Chinx, real name Lionel Pickens, 31, was shot 15 times on May 17 as he and a pal sat in a silver Porsche on Queens Boulevard in Jamaica. The pal, shot twice in the back, survived. (NY Post)

Chinx’s manager Biggs recently spoke to SOHH about people feeling encouraged to work with law enforcement to help find his friend’s killer.

“I tell people all the time, hip-hop and the hip-hop community, you always have this thing where you’re snitching if you saw something or say something and I say to people all the time, “If you go and do a crime and then you tell on somebody else to keep from doing time, then you’re snitching.” If you sit and know something about someone being murdered, somebody’s life being cut short, and you provide information to something like that, that’s not snitching. That’s doing the right thing.” (SOHH)

Biggs also said he had faith in the police department getting the case completed.

“I tell people all the time, “If you know something, say something.” Let’s not be a community that allows injustice to take place and nobody does anything about it. The only way these things get swept under the rug is if we don’t keep the pressure on there and demand answers. With that being said, I’m sure the police department is doing what they’re supposed to do and they probably have more information than what they’re telling us but it’s an open investigation.” (SOHH)
