Bad Boy Entertainment’s French Montana recently updated fans on the status of his long-awaited Mac & Cheese: The Album release.
According to Montana, fans can rest assured his follow-up to 2013’s Excuse My French is still underway.
“The date might have moved like a week or two weeks later, but we’re still dropping [it]. It’s done, it’s ready to go,” Montana tells Billboard, also confirming that no music from the album has been released. “The first record [off the album] is coming really soon — obviously after this mixtape,” he says. Montana previously aimed to have the album come out in August.
“August, I don’t have the exact date. Probably the end of August. The mixtape is the appetizer, the album is the meal. I’ve been working on it [for] so long, but I saved the best for the album. I got Miguel on there… Kanye West. The album I’m trying to keep mostly for me, just a couple of features.” (Billboard)
French also provided some insight on why he’s waited more than two years to put out the LP.
“I wanted to make sure that I was putting the right product out for me, but something that makes everybody happy at the same time. [I’m] coming off my first album, and a few years [of] not putting [anything] out and still being on everybody’s single. From J.Lo, to working with Jay Z, to Miley Cyrus, will.i.am, those are experiences that let people who don’t know who French Montana is see my talent. I figure this time people know who French Montana is so I can give them my own product.” (Billboard)
Last year, Montana said the long-awaited solo effort was slated to arrive in December 2014.
“Yeah, I’m fully completed,” French said when asked about the album’s progress. “Right now I’m just trying to clear a sample. I got Harry Fraud. He did the whole joint. I’m just trying to clear a sample right now. They’re saying December 16 for now. The label. [laughs]” (“Sway In The Morning”)
