In a “New Music Daily with Zane Lowe” Apple Beats 1 interview, Montana blamed his recent travels for ultimately taking a massive toll on his body.

“You know, life come at you sometimes, get you down to your knees. That’s what happened when you try to be too much of a rock star on your birthday. I turned up so much I ended up in the ICU. Damn, for real. I went to like four different countries in like six days. Saudi, Egypt, Morocco, and like somewhere else. I ended up in my house. The rock star got a story to tell his kids. I stayed there for a couple of days until I made sure my body was right to leave and come home and that a personal nurse is taking care of me. They told me I have to stay home for like four weeks until I’m fully recovered. I had an album coming out. I’m so mad because I can’t do what I’m supposed to be doing, but as long as I got people like you, my brother, people that’s been supporting me, I ain’t even worried. They can’t keep a good man down. The doctor walk in like, “What are you doing?” I’m like, “Pushups.” He’s like, “Get your a** in that bed.” I was stunting for the Gram, letting people know I was strong.” (“New Music Daily with Zane Lowe”)

Montana also talked about putting out new music and his relationship with Memphis rap group Three 6 Mafia.

“I think that they’re all my babies. It’s hard to separate one from another. But if I was to pick one, it would be either What it Look Like and 50s & 100s. 50s & 100s for me just being like a true truth. I’m a Three 6 Mafia fan from the Most Known Unknown. Because I remember when I did the Powerglide for Swae Lee, I was actually trying to do Roll With It. Then once I did Roll With It and Powerglide, I gave Swae Lee Powerglide and I kept Roll With It. And Roll With It was my favorite song that ever came out of the whole down South history. And I’m just glad that Juicy J gave me his blessing. I remember when [Three 6 Mafia] used to go in a circle. I still go out, they used to go to collect those hits and I used to be having a Cocaine City DVDs. And I used to see them pushing their product hand in hand and actually distributing through independent distribution. Because that was the first group that I’ll go platinum from out there. I watched the whole triumph and the defeat with them. So for me to get the blessings and actually see everything, come back and do a whole 360 with exactly what you’re saying, how the sound’s still traveling. We ain’t worried though. We ain’t worried, Zane. Then this music right here is the best music I’ve ever made. You’ll see. Let me throw my brother appreciations there.” (“New Music Daily with Zane Lowe”)

Last week, Montana announced he had finally checked out of the intensive care unit.

The same week, Texas hip-hop artist Megan Thee Stallion visited Montana at the hospital.
