[After the recent release of his new “The Last Ronin” album, hip-hop veteran Fong Sai U talks to SOHH about piecing together his latest solo offering.]
My last album “Ballads of a Massacre” came together piece by piece. I would do a couple songs throughout the years. That took about three or four years to put together because I kept letting real life get in the way.
This is the first project where I said I would take everything I’m going through and just put it out in the world. When you keep sh*t bottled up, you keep losing it. This album is like my therapy.
When I was making every beat on “The Last Ronin,” it was all raw.
I dig and it takes a minute to make this music. Even if you try to rush something, that’s not how you make a classic. With this album, what’s different is that I went into “The Last Ronin” saying I would do it, execute it and I did it.

I did this in less than a month but it was because I had so much stuff bottled in. For the “Ballads” album, that took about three or four years because I kept letting other sh*t distract me.
I feel like this is more of my baby than “Ballads” because it’s harder and I’m telling the truth. There’s going to be some n*ggas out there that’s going to be salty because I’m naming their names. I’m not leaving them out.
I want to make this for the n*ggas that I know. They might have snitched on somebody. I don’t bite my tongue because I don’t fear no man.
