[With the annual Market America World Conference going down February 4 in Miami, Florida, Terror Squad leader Fat Joe talks to SOHH about becoming the company’s President of Urban and Latino Development.]

What happened was my friend who owns Market America, JR and Loren Ridinger, and who I have been friends with them for over 15 years and the company has made over $7 billion.

The people really called up enfranchised owners who do the business and have made over 3 ½ billion dollars. So one day I was hanging out with JR and was like, “Yo, JR, how many people are in the business?” He was like, “It’s 180,000 in the business.”

I said, “How many are Latino?” He said, “Two.” I said, “How many are black?” He said, “Two.” I said, “Well, how many are white?” He said, “180,000 [people in the business].”

Hearing a business model that works and helping people become business owners is great but I heard where the Latino community wasn’t benefiting from it. So I figured, let me get into this business and not only can I make money in this business but I can actually help people make money in this business and everybody else can succeed and own their own business.

That’s what really got me into the business. Now that I’ve been doing the business for over a year and a half, I’m not going to lie to you, I’m just so passionate about the business. We get an opportunity to change people’s lives and at the same time, become successful while doing it.
