Brooklyn rapper Fabolous is not taking a minute to smell the roses coming off a near-death car wreck this week and is preparing to take over a celebrity-driven spot in Manhattan. #RealityCheck
Details of Faboloso’s weekend event surfaced online Thursday (May 22).
Fabolous has put popular riverfront restaurant La Marina in one of his rap songs, and the Brooklyn rapper — fresh off a car accident this week in Queens — will perform Saturday at the venue he helped make famous. The summertime hotspot has attracted the likes of Jay Z, Beyonce and Leonardo DiCaprio since it opened in 2012, but last year the city cracked down, ordering La Marina to end its season early and call off an album release party for rapper Drake. Back in December, buzz about the popular venue possibly suffering a power struggle hit the Internet.
The battle over La Marina has gotten so bizarre that one owner — former taxi bigwig Fernando Mateo — even challenged two of his business partners to a boxing bout to settle their dispute, according to Manhattan Supreme Court papers. Mateo, the former head of the state Federation of Taxi Drivers who bought into the business and now manages it, is at loggerheads with the founding members of the lounge and 22-boat-slip marina on Dyckman Street in Inwood.
