Former Ruff Ryders member Eve is the latest hip-hop artist to put in her two cents on Maybach Music Group head Rick Ross losing a multi-million dollar endorsement deal with Reebok.
In E-v-e’s perspective, the huge decision to part ways with the “Boss” probably was bigger and involved more factors than most people think.
She also weighed in on the controversy surrounding Rick Ross’ pro-rape lyrics, which ended with the termination of his Reebok deal. “I think they did what was in their right as a corporation,” explained Eve. “People still have to remember it is a business and there are shareholders that are bigger than just Reebok that are probably looking at this situation and being like, ‘You know what, this is not something that we want to represent.'” (Rap-Up)
She also admitted to taking a bit of offense toward Ricky Rozay’s “U.O.E.N.O” date rape lyrics.
While she realizes it’s only words, she did take offense. “As a woman, I’m like, ‘Whoa.’ It just makes you think in a different way. I feel like it’s wordplay, but at the same time, it does make you think twice, like what do you mean? Are you that dude? It’s not OK.” (Rap-Up)
According to reports, the Reebok break-up will force Ross to lose at least $3 million.
Rick Ross is crestfallen over losing his Reebok deal because of that date rape song … but he’s also bitter because he believes the shoe company owed him a second chance. Sources close to the rapper tell TMZ … Ross will lose between $3.5 million and $5 million … he was getting a check each time he wore the shoes. TMZ broke the story … Reebok dumped Ross for releasing the song U.O.E.N.O., which includes the lyric: “Put Molly [Ecstasy] all in the champagne. She ain’t even know it. I took her home and I enjoy that. She ain’t even know it.” Ross issued a tepid apology … suggesting the lyrics were actually misinterpreted. He also pulled the song — which was only on a mixtape. In light of the mega retailer pulling its plug on Rick, MMG member Meek Mill disassociated himself from Reebok last week.
“Reeboks right next 2 FILA when it come 2 sneaks that sh*t corny… I was only was feeling swizz & tyga projects… #boom,” Meek tweeted April 12th. (Meek Mill’s Twitter)
