[With the shocking passing of music pioneer Larry Smith last week, hip-hop veteran Erick Sermon shares his initial reaction to SOHH readers.]
Oh man, Larry Smith, we were just talking about him. Oh my god. That’s kind of crazy. Wow.
This is my first time hearing this. This is a very horrible loss. Me and Doug E. Fresh recently had a conversation just in Virginia about Larry Smith and the things he produced that I didn’t even know he was a part of. All of that stuff in the beginning [of hip-hop’s roots.]
Again, I had no idea. He was before his time. It was for someone like him to make it possible for people like us. I know how it feels because that’s how I feel right now.
I definitely gotta pay homage to that.
Kurtis Blow. At the end of the day, Larry Smith, that was Kurt’s guy. That’s what comes to mind when you think of Larry Smith.
