Last week reports claimed “Empire” broke new ground with season-high ratings.

The hip-hop drama’s third episode climbed to 10.9 million viewers and a big 4.3 rating among adults 18-49. That’s up 8 percent after the show already shocked the industry by climbing in week two from its strong premiere. This just doesn’t … hardly … ever … happen. (Entertainment Weekly)

Recent reports revealed “Empire” is one of three series that will live to see another season next year.

Fox just announced three early series renewals — and one is really early. As expected, the network has picked up Gotham for a second season and Brooklyn Nine-Nine for a third season. But far less expected (at least this soon) is that Fox has renewed hip-hop drama Empire for a second season. (Entertainment Weekly)

In response to rap star 50 Cent comparing their show to his “Power” series, “Empire” star Terrence Howard recently joked about sharing a big role in his 2005 movie, Get Rich Or Die Tryin’.

“Fifty is my monster man. We served jail time together in his film, you know, we’ve been naked together. I love the fact that we’re both pushing the envelope with our shows and what it says about cinema and television, how the change has occurred to where black men can be on opposing levels, because we’re both telling a similar story,” he went on. “So it’s kinda great. I’m proud of him – very proud of him.” (The Wrap)
