“Empire” is back to where it belongs – atop its competition. The hip-hop soap opera has brought back ample viewers for its latest episode.

According to reports, “Empire” snagged over 6 million viewers with last night’s show.

Fox’s Empire ( 2.0, 6.1 million) enjoyed its best ratings since its premiere Wednesday, as most shows logged week-to-week bumps compared to previous week. NBC’s Chicago P.D. (1.2, 6.4 million viewers) was the biggest week-to-week gainer of the night. But Fox led the night in the demo as Empire’s 2.0 matched the show’s high since its Sept. 27 season premiere (2.4). Last week, “Empire” managed to bring in over 5 million watchers.

ABC’s country music awards show dominated Wednesday night, leaving Fox’s “Empire” in the dust. ABC was first in ratings with a 3.2 rating/12 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 14.3 million, according to preliminary numbers. “Empire” at 8 p.m. posted a 1.8/7 and 5.4 million viewers. Recent reports claimed “Empire” has gone on a break to work on season four’s script.

The break will begin Wednesday, once filming has completed on episode 409, and is expected to last somewhere between two and three weeks. The hiatus is expected to give the writers time to catch up and plot out the eight remaining episodes of the season, beginning with episode 410. (The Hollywood Reporter)

In mid-October, the popular Fox show suffered a series-low in overall ratings.

This week’s episode of “Empire” is currently at a new low for the Fox music drama in both key ratings measures, according to Nielsen overnight data. Airing at 8 p.m., “Empire” averaged a 1.8 rating in adults 18-49 and 5.5 million total viewers. While that is not down significantly from last week’s episode (2.0, 5.9 million), it is nevertheless below the previous series low set by episode 15 of Season 3 (1.9, 5.6 million). There is of course the possibility that the show will adjust up when the final numbers come in later today. “Empire” has also consistently shown significant lift in delayed viewing. (Variety)
