Eminem On Wanting To Diss Kanye West & Lil Wayne, “It Would Have Been Career Suicide” [Video]

Eminem recently talked about coming close to releasing a diss record going at Kanye West and Lil Wayne and considered what the outcome would have been.

Em believes he would have destroyed his career if he had sparked a beef with either artist.

“When I made the record, ‘Talkin’ To Myself,’ what I was basically talking about was the time period that I was away, I was kinda watching what was going on in the game and it was like, anything that was hot at that moment or anybody who was really killing sh*t at that moment, I felt so bad about myself and the music that I was creating that I felt like I was starting to turn into a hater,” Em told radio personality Big Boy. “It wasn’t just, singling Lil Wayne and Kanye West at that time period, they were the ones killing it the most, to me, and it hurt. And it was like, ‘F*ck man, I’m not doing it good’ I felt like I came really close, for me, it would have been career suicide. I felt like making a song just dissing everybody who’s doing it in the game right now. I just had the thoughts, walking around in the studio, I think deep down, I wasn’t happy with myself.” (Radio Big Boy)

Em briefly revealed his past intent to diss both emcees on his new song, “Talkin’ 2 Me.”

“Hatred was flowing through my veins, on the verge of going insane, I almost made a song dissing Lil Wayne. It’s like I was jealous of him because of the attention he was getting, I felt horrible about myself. He was spittin’ and I wasn’t. Anyone who was buzzin back then could of got it, almost went at Kanye too. God it feels like I’m going psychotic. Thank god that I didn’t do it, I would of had my a** handed to me. And I knew it, but Proof isn’t here to see me through it….” (“Talkin’ 2 Myself”)

The rapper recently shared a near-death experience when battling drug addiction.

“It took me awhile to admit I actually did have a problem,” the musician said. “In the hip-hop world that I live in, it can be mistaken for weakness and the last thing you want to do in hip-hop is admit that you’re weak. But if I didn’t admit I was weak with this certain thing I was going to die.” When asked how close he was to death, the artist responded that he “was certainly a couple of hours away from death,” adding that he “overdosed and almost died.” But he pulled himself back from the brink and re-entered rehab with a more honest, committed attitude: “I had to admit I had a problem. I had to do it for myself,” Eminem said. (CNN)

Last January, music veteran Elton John revealed he was helping Em fight through drug addiction.

“I’ve been helping Eminem over the last 18 months and he’s doing brilliantly,” John says, reports the British Press Association. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 in the U.K. on Saturday, Sir Elton, 62, who has freely spoken about his own past issues with substance abuse, said: “I’m there if people want my help. If people ask for help you tell them where to go but there’s no point advising people if they don’t want to do it.” (People)
