The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced hip-hop icon Eminem will be inducted into its ranks. This makes him the tenth hip-hop act to be honored with this award in the organization’s history.
Eminem’s 2022 Hall Of Fame Induction
Eminem, country singer Dolly Parton, R&B icon Lionel Richie, and several others have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The rapper is only the tenth hip-hop act to be inducted since the organization was founded in 1983.
Eminem has yet to comment on the honor.
Artists become eligible for induction twenty-five years after the release of their first commercial recording. However, hip-hop artists were notoriously excluded from the honor and women were also underrepresented, accounting for less than eight percent of inductees. After years of criticism on the topic of diversity, the Hall has made pointed attempts to expand its range. In 2007, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five became the first rap group inductee. In 2017, Tupac Shakur became the first solo rap artist to be inducted. LL Cool J and Jay-Z were inducted in 2021, as were the late Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson.
Jay-Z Shouts Out Dame Dash
Jay-Z took the opportunity during his Hall of Fame induction speech to acknowledge his former partner, Dame Dash. According to Dame, the last time the two spoke was circa 2013. At the time, he said he wished they could’ve “hammered things out” together instead of with lawyers.
