A few weeks after photos of rap star Eminem and West Coast sensation Kendrick Lamar posing together surfaced online, Black Hippy member Schoolboy Q has provided some new context on the in-studio experience.

According to SQ, they had no intention of trying to snatch a verse up from Em despite being face-to-face with the mega music mogul.

“We weren’t trying to go in there all, ‘Oh let me get a verse.’ We hate when people do that to us, so we actually wanted to go in there and be cool and feel him out and see what was going on before anybody asked for a verse,” Q told us of his June in-studio meeting with Em. Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, Royce da 5’9,” Mr. Porter, Schoolboy and of course Eminem all linked up in Detroit. Fans — and news writers — hoped that there was an all-star recording session, but it was more of a hangout. “We just sat there, we chilled, we talked. We expressed what we liked about each other’s music, we talked about Slaughterhouse, we talked about his artists, we talked about us individually. He’s just a good dude, just chillin’,” Q said. While K-Dot and Slim Shady exchanged words, Q said he fell back and mostly observed.

“I sat in there and I didn’t say nothing. I soaked up game, I didn’t want to say too much,” he told us. “I can’t go in there running my mouth trying to act like I know everything, that’s a dude that done been from nothing to something. I sat there and I just soaked up game. I didn’t really say too much, I was just listening really.” Fans shouldn’t worry much though; Schoolboy figures that TDE/Shady Records collaboration will materialize eventually, when the time is right, of course. “I’m pretty sure one of the homeys gonna ask for a verse though,” he said laughing. The star-studded photo started to make its rounds across the Internet in early June.

The Black Hippy crew (Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock) were in Detroit this Wednesday (June 5), and had the opportunity to link up with Eminem in the studio. Along with Em, Slaughterhouse’s Royce Da 5’0 and Mr. Porter were also in the cut. Will we see a collaboration in the future? Only time will tell. (Baller Status)

In May, comedian Chris Rock briefly talked about clocking in studio time with Slim Shady.

“Yeah, yeah, but money does that,” Chris jokingly said when an interviewer said Em looked younger in the photo. “I’m 65, man! [laughs] Money is the best lotion in the world. [What were we doing?] I can’t really say. I’m saying, hey, you know, I’ve been on, hey, hey, I was on the Kanye record, maybe I’m on the Eminem record. You never know. You never know!” (Fuse TV)
