Marshall Mathers’ epic album managed to do historic sales in its first 48 hours.
Despite the conditions under which the album was made available for sale, the record sold 284,000 in its first 24 hours and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It became the first album in history to debut at No. 1 with only one sales day counting toward its first-week availability. The album’s first full week on shelves saw sales figures of more than 1.3 million copies, and it eventually became the best-selling album of 2002 in the U.S. To date it has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide, earning diamond certification from the RIAA. Later this year, Em will keep busy performing at the Glasgow Summer Sessions music festival.
This August, Eminem will return to Scotland to headline the Glasgow Summer Sessions. For Marshall Mathers, this will mark his return to Glasgow since 2013, where he also served as a headliner. The “Lose Yourself” MC will have a strong supporting cast to help anchor this year’s festivities as Run the Jewels, Danny Brown, and Russ will also perform on Aug. 24. (Billboard)
One of the Glasgow Summer Sessions executives recently weighed-in on landing Marshall Mathers.
Glasgow Summer Sessions organiser Geoff Ellis said: “We’re delighted to announce that Eminem will be returning to play Glasgow Summer Sessions. His performance at Bellahouston Park in 2013 was spectacular, so I have no doubt this will be one of the gigs of the year. Joining him on the bill are Run The Jewels, Danny Brown and Russ with Glasgow once again taking centre stage as a destination for the world’s biggest artists.” (NME)
