OVO Sound boss Drake is officially rocking with Netflix. The 6 God has teamed up with the streaming giant to revive British drama “Top Boy” as an original series.
Drake hopped on Instagram Wednesday (November 8) to break the news to fans.
The 6 God is reportedly an executive producer for the revamped TV project.
In THR’s cover story, Drake noted he caught the original on YouTube and was taken with its depiction of London as both beautiful and malevolent. “That human element drew me in,” he said. Netflix vp originals Cindy Holland also noted that it was Drake’s passion for the series that “drove its resurrection.” Top Boy comes as Drake is looking to expand his television (and film) footprint. Barring any setbacks, Drake’s series will officially premiere on Netflix in 2019.
British drama series Top Boy is getting a new season on Netflix. Created and written by Ronan Bennett, the series chronicling two drug dealers at an East London housing estate will return for a third chapter in 2019 as a Netflix original. Top Boy aired for two seasons on broadcast in the UK before ending in 2013. Both of the original seasons are globally available on Netflix. (Deadline)
Despite ending in 2013, the revived series will continue its storyline.
The new 10-part season, to premiere in 2019, picks up where the original show left off. Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson will reprise their roles as Dushane and Sully, respectively, two drug dealers who return to London from exile and prison and team up to try to dominate the trade again. The pair run up against Jamie, a ruthless young gang leader. (Variety)
