Young Money's Drake recently talked about the hottest jams coming straight from Atlanta and why he had to turn down an opportunity to drop bars on newcomer Rich Homie Quan's "Type of Way" anthem.

According to Drizzy, his own commitment to wrapping up Nothing Was The Same held the “Type of Way” collabo back.

“I was sitting with DJ Drama and a bunch of people in the studio just debating about Atlanta records and when I heard ‘Versace,’ right away [I liked it],” Drake told MTV News. “Shout out to Rich Homie Quan too, he’s killing it on his own, but it was a toss-up between Migos and Rich Home Quan as far as records I loved and wanted to get on. I was supposed to do ‘Type of Way’ [also] and I probably should’ve done them both but I’ve just been trying to finish this album.” (MTV)

He also went as far as to proclaim “Type of Way” as the summer’s hottest record.

“That record is the song of the summer, I regret not getting on it, but I feel like now if I get on it, people are gonna be like ‘ah man you waited too long,'” he added. “I like to have the jump on it. I wish I would’ve written that record. That’s Toronto talk — you feel a type of way, that’s our lingo, so I should’ve probably been involved in that.” (MTV)

Drizzy recently noted the slew of high-profile releases this year made him step his game up for the new LP.

“I remember coming into this year thinking, “How am I going to cut through all these people and shine?” I’ve never been part of a year when so many legends are dropping projects. How am I going to be seen? I’m going to be like the kid waving in the background in the photo with all of his tall relatives. And, I guess, those were my initial thoughts, and not to say that I haven’t enjoyed some of the stuff that has come out this year, but it didn’t pan out the way I thought it was going to. I think I am going for it, to really establish what are murmurs or things being said quietly, “Um, I think that Drake might actually…” On September 17th I want people to be like, “Oh, we were right.”” (XXL Magazine)

Earlier this month, the Young Money star premiered his Majid Jordan-assisted “Hold On, We’re Going Home.

Fresh off his 4th Annual OVO Fest, Drake debuts his new single “Hold On, We’re Going Home” via Chicago radio station WGCI. Following his hip-hop anthems “Started From the Bottom” and “All Me,” October’s Very Own returns to singing on the tender cut, which is set to appear on his third album Nothing Was the Same, due September 17. “Just hold on, we’re going home/ It’s hard to do these things alone,” he sings over the melodic beat, which features vocals from Canadian crooner Majid.
