OVO Sound boss Drake has everyone wondering what his next power move might be with rumors buzzing about him leaving Cash Money Records. However, some industry insiders believe he’s going to ink a new deal with parent company Universal Music Group.
According to reports, there’s a strong chance Drizzy could cut ties with Cash Money.
The smart money says that the only deal Drake is out of is his longtime pact with Cash Money, and that he already has a new arrangement in place with Uni. While nothing official has been announced, it’s likely that Drake has been given his own label with fabulous terms and amazing splits. This week, speculation developed about Drake possibly releasing a new album shortly after he inks a fresh record contract.
Word is that Drake is at the end of his contractual obligations to the Young Money/Cash Money label — “Soon as this album drop I’m out of the deal,” he raps on the song “Is There More” — which is distributed through Universal Music Group’s Republic Records. And a well-placed source tells Variety that when Drake signs his next deal, he’ll have another release ready to drop to accompany the news — although a Universal source reveals that the artist is not leaving the label family any time soon.
