Young Money’s Drake has expanded his growing OVO Sound company with the addition of music newcomer ILOVEMAKONNEN to the team.

According to reports, Drizzy broke the news of his executive move during a live concert.

After Drake made popular the underground “Tuesday” hit, he featured ILOVEMAKONNEN at the Drake vs. Lil’ Wayne tour in Atlanta, where it was announced that the 25-year-old artist signed to Drizzy’s Warner-based imprint OVO Sound. (HHW)

The music newcomer has made a name for himself off a recently released mixtape.

ILOVEMAKONNEN is a new rising star in the rap game. The Atlanta emcee has released just one self-titled mixtape but made major waves with his contemporaries thanks to Drake’s enthusiastic reception toward “Tuesday.” He’s just the latest rapper to join Drake’s OVO Sound, a label imprint of Warner Bros. The Toronto native promptly released a revamped version of ILOVEMAKONNEN’s “Tuesday” anthem last month.

He gave Tinashe’s “2 On” an extra boost when he added a verse to it, and he gives a similar treatment to ILOVEMAKONNEN’s single “Club Goin’ Up on a Tuesday.” The melodic track, produced by Metro Boomin & Sonny Digital is featured on the Atlanta artist’s June EP I Love Makonnen. One listen to the hook and you can tell that it’s right up Drake’s alley. (MTV)

Last year, Drake admitted being very picky when it came to his OVO Sound label.

“I just sit at home every night and think about how I’m going to be the best rapper, so I don’t think I’m ready to sign another rapper yet. At the end of the day, I would never ignore anyone with talent. I’m not selfish. I would love to see another rapper thrive. It’s just that bars, at this stage in my life, are a funny thing to me. I have to hear something extremely unique and exciting to really be into it. We’re just assembling a label of great music. I don’t think people understand how talented Party [Next Door] is or these guys 40 signed. I’m very confident in the label we have right now. We only have two acts, but it’s very strong.” (XXL Mag)
