According to reports, Cole’s “retarded” reference has sparked a petition, launched just a few days ago and already picking up momentum.

Even though it was released last month, Drake and J. Cole’s “Jodeci Freestyle” is now causing a bit of a sh*tstorm. Specifically, over the Born Sinner rapper’s line, “I’m artistic, you niggas is autistic, retarded.” Turns out some people aren’t too happy about that. As Fact reports, the Anti-Bullying Alliance and autism activist Anna Kennedy are calling on the rappers to offer an official apology and remove the offending lyric from the release. They started a petition on Change.org and it’s already garnered over 2,500 signatures since it was launched on July 13. “It’s time we recognised people with autism for the exceptional human beings that they are and make a stand,” Kennedy’s statement reads. “Give us a Break!” (SPIN)

The petition has already racked up half the number of signatures its aiming to reach.

The petition only has a goal of 5,000 signatures, which should be reached soon. Then again, Change.org doesn’t exactly have any legal sway over Drake and J., so it’s feasible that nothing will come of this. At the very least, we can all agree that rhyming artistic and autistic is pretty weak. (SPIN)

Rap star Kanye West‘s “On Sight” Yeezus track has also sparked backlash over its reference to Parkinson’s disease.

Kanye West is being slammed as “ignorant” and “distasteful” over a lyric on his new album which uses Parkinson’s disease as a punch line … TMZ has learned. Now, TMZ has learned the American Parkinson Disease Association is upset about the lyric — with the org.’s VP Kathryn Whitford telling us, “We find these lyrics distasteful and the product of obvious ignorance.” FYI — the APDA has been around for over 50 years and it’s the largest organization in the country dedicated to helping those with Parkinson’s and furthering efforts to find a cure. So far, no response from Kanye’s camp.” (TMZ)

Last month, Drake unleashed a few new tracks.

Drake pulled a Kanye and released new music in the wee hours of Saturday morning. Of the two songs revealed, “The Motion” is a mid-tempo, electro-tinged anti-love song featuring SBTRKT vocals Sampha. Meanwhile, on “Jodeci Freestyle”, Drizzy teams with J. Cole for a forceful, braggadocios rant directed toward his competition. It’s unclear if either track will appear on Drake’s new album, Nothing Was The Same, but one thing we do know: As also announced this morning, the album will arrive on September 17th.
