Young Money's Drake reportedly had approval to release his overnight If You're Reading This It's Too Late retail project from his estranged label Cash Money.

According to reports, Cash Money officially released the project under its imprint.

Word out of the Drake camp is those rumors that Cash Money was totally out of the loop on Drizzy’s surprise release and that CM’s Slim and Baby were sandbagged by Drake and Republic are bogus—all the posturing by Drake and Lil Wayne about being unhappy with Slim and Baby’s running of their label notwithstanding. Officially, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late is a proper Young Money/Cash Money/Republic release. (HITS Daily Double)

Check out how many copies the project is expected to sell on the next page…

Rap star Big Sean admitted he made sure to contribute to Drizzy’s sales total in a recent interview.

But he did go out and support his friend Drake’s mixtape If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. “Yeah, of course. I bought it. I think it’s great. That’s the homie. I got nothin’ but love for them OVO boys. They my dogs right there.” (Rap-Up)

One-day estimates claim the project will easily dominate the sales chart this week.

Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late (Young Money/Cash Money/Republic) will debut at #1 on the HITS Album and SPS charts next week, spoiling what looked less than 24 hours ago like a slam dunk for the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack—but the marketshare goes to the same place, so Republic can’t complain. What’s more, the surprise mixtape could see first-weekend sales of 500k. (HITS Daily Double)

Drizzy treated fans to the unexpected music gem on Twitter last Thursday (February 12) night.

          • It’s obvious you’re trolling. Any idiot can simply google Drake’s album and see the huge fucking headline that it’s the number one ALBUM on billboard and it’s due to sell physically in stores in a week. Who gives a shit about Migos, Nippsy and Gucci. Put the crack pipe down and fucking read a book! Maybe you can save whatever you have left for a brain…

          • Your mom should’ve swallowed and spared the world one less deadbrain idiot.. Next time do research before you talk shit about something you couldn’t even bother to spend 2 minutes googling…

          • I ALWAYS CAN TELL WHEN A NIGGA IS A STUPID IDIOT WHEN THEY RUN TO GOOGLE INSTEAD OF USING COMMON SENSE!!! LMMFAO

          • It’s not uncommon for albums to has exclusivity deals with iTunes, Amazon, Best buy digital, etc. for the first week of release.

  3. This is some terrible reporting, even for a cut and paste job. All the rumors weren’t because people thought Drake didn’t have permission. The speculation about this whole situation is whether or not Cash Money knew Drake would effectively be releasing his mixtape as an album and whether or not doing so, completes his contract. Drake’s decision to put it on iTunes for sale does that, regardless of what the anyone (himself included) calls it because he hasn’t released it for free on any medium. With “℗ 2015 Cash Money Records Inc.” being listed on iTunes, he obviouslt obtained Cash Money’s blessing to make it an official release.

    • Drake isn’t signed to Cash Money. He’s signed to Universal via Republic kind of like how Meek Mill and Wale are signed to Warner Brothers but rep Maybach Music. It gets confusing to some people these days because these people be misleading you. His deal is with Republic formerly with Motown through Universal, and they didn’t count it. That’s all you need to know. Cash Money did “count it” because they are irrelevant in any of this except for promotional wise and when booking shows.

      • Although these labels have parent labels the artist are still signed to said labels. The YM/CM and MMG imprints on these artists releases aren’t for promotional use only. They designate legally binding contracts between the artist and label. They are signed to these labels.

        • Just depends, like with Tyga and Wayne, but I know what I stated before is truth. Drake isn’t signed to Cash Money or Young Money. He even said it right after he signed his Universal Motown deal back in 2009. He’s on Republic, and if Cash Money went away tomorrow, he’d still be on Republic until he completes that deal. Wale and Meek Mill are the same way with Warner as opposed to Maybach. Pill let that cat out of the bag when he was no longer being promoted by Maybach, and then he said shortly thereafter that he was never really on the label, just paired with it to try to give him some buzz. Wale had a deal with Warner before the Maybach pairing. Same with Meek Mill.

          • Then we can rightly say that Wale and Meek aren’t signed to Atlantic as well. Of course they are. They are also signed to MMG as they stated it themselves. They admitted for the first six months or so they weren’t signed but they eventually signed with Ross.

          • Like I said, believe what you want. Dudes have vanity labels these days, and these dudes are signed as you said to Warner through Atlantic records. There are essentially 3 labels that run all this shit. They let the Sambos parade around like they got this label and do this and that, but they’re getting walking papers from the corporate offices. “Independent” labels these days are a branding thing, not really a label thing. Do you understand what it actually takes to run a label, I mean real deal run a label, but you think Rick Ross and some of these other fools are doing that, plus all the extra shit they’re doing? It’s why Ross is still signed to Slip n Slide and Def Jam while his “roster” is signed to Warner Brothers Records through Atlantic. They pull the strings.

          • I’ll believe the artist. If they day they’re signed why wouldn’t I believe it. How has Ross benefited by saying he had a record label. His sales have continued to decline. But he stays on the Forbes list. How? Why? Slip n Slide is a real label but MMG isn’t? I say the same to you, believe what you want.

          • Slip n Slide been around since the 90s, homie. Read what I said in my response to other dude that the independent labels from 15 or 20 years ago don’t equal this shit today. I was just putting you up on the game and how it goes now, which is why this music is so shitty and all sounds the same because all thes e dudes aare getting walking papers from a handful of people. But you keep reading the Forbes list and what somebody said, which btw was my point. Pill said exactly how it works. So did Rick Ross after somebody asked him at the time. Drake said exactly how it works when he signed with Universal Motown at the time (Now Republic). It’s promotional shit. Now, Wayne, he’s in a deal that he signed almost 10 years ago. The record industry doesn’t even look the same as it did 5 years ago, so then you can follow why his deal looks way different, just like Ross’ deal does with Slip and Def Jam from his so called artists, just like people T.I. dealt with on his Atlantic deal sent him the orders from up high for him to front their white experiment. This shit ain’t ahrd to find, and it sure ain’t hard to find if you know a couple of people who deal with these contracts, which I do.

          • Yea it’s confusing…..drake is signed to young money…and cash money distributes the albums…and the same for Nicki. Wayne is the boss…and his lover…I mean daddy…birdman is his boss. Yea….people like you are confused!!

          • Homie, I don’t care, but I was just pointing it out because people keep saying it, and it’s not true. I don’t know Nicki’s deal, but I know Drake ain’t signed to them. It’s like a “this was good for business thing” because it’s how he got in the game from when Jas Prince introduced him to Lil Wayne. Also, I know you don’t believe Wayne is the boss of shit. Otherwise, he could put his own album out without getting approval from the label, and it’s also why Drake on the other hand can put out a retail mixtape that Republic btw isn’t counting toward his record contract, and can put one out without Cash Money having say so in it whatsoever. Let Wayne try to sell one. He’ll get his hand slapped because he’s signed to Cash Money; Drake is not. Wayne can do a free one all day long though because that’s the deal he’s in.

Hell, Birdman and Slim barely are dictating shit as they get their walking papers straight from Universal. This isn’t the old 50/50 days back in the 90’s as the majors have a pretty heavy hand on all those vanity labels that parade as independent these days. Cash Money isn’t as bad off as others, but they’re still not doing shit without the green light from massah in the ivory tower.

  4. So is it a mixtape or album?? Regardless that shit better than “Nothing was the same”

That’s all you need to know. Cash Money did “count it” because they are irrelevant in any of this except for promotional wise and when booking shows. I can’t believe how many outlets keep misreporting this and sound dumb as fuck while doing it.

    • Although these labels have parent labels the artist are still signed to said labels. The YM/CM and MMG imprints on these artists releases aren’t for promotional use only. They designate legally binding contracts between the artist and label. They are signed to these labels.

    • Just depends, like with Tyga and Wayne, they are Cash Money property until that contract is resolved. But I know what I stated before with Drake and the Maybach artists is true. In so many words, Rick Ross confirmed this. Wale had a deal with Warner before the Maybach pairing. Same with Meek Mill. That’s why I said it gets confusing because these so called hip hop writers aren’t distinguishing between the 2 designations.

    • Then we can rightly say that Wale and Meek aren’t signed to Atlantic as well. Of course they are. They are also signed to MMG as they stated it themselves. They admitted for the first six months or so they weren’t signed but they eventually signed with Ross.

    • Homie, I don’t care, but I was just pointing it out because people keep saying it, and it’s not true. Hell, he said it himself when he first signed and people were asking about it, but I guess that’s gotten lost in translation the last 5 years.

I don’t know Nicki’s deal, but I know Drake ain’t signed to them. It’s like a “this was good for business thing” because it’s how he got in the game from when Jas Prince introduced him to Lil Wayne. Also, I know you don’t believe Wayne is the boss of shit. It’s also why all those dudes he’s got with him like Twist and Millz ain’t never gonna see the light of day.

Hell, Birdman and Slim barely are dictating shit as they get their walking papers straight from Universal. This isn’t the old 50/50 days back in the 90’s as the majors have a pretty heavy hand on all those vanity labels that parade as independent these days. It’s why Ross is still signed to Slip n Slide and Def Jam while his “roster” is signed to Warner Brothers Records through Atlantic. They pull the strings. Same shit that bitch that runs Sony did with Iggy Azalea 2 years ago when she put her with T.I. and she started repping Grand Hustle. That bitch didn’t sign shit with T.I….it was a promo thing where you put brands together and in her case, get her some hot songs written.

    • I’ll believe the artist. If they day they’re signed why wouldn’t I believe it. How has Ross benefited by saying he had a record label. His sales have continued to decline. This shit ain’t hard to find, and it sure ain’t hard to find if you know a couple of people who deal with these contracts, which I do. For instance, Drake is about the last hip hop artist that did one of the old style deals that’s not a 360. Since then, that’s all these new dudes been signing.

Why you think people like Prince will only do a 1 album deal with a major when any of the majors would have him? Even Madonna is in a 360 now.
