Music mogul Dr. Dre opens up to fans in an upcoming cover feature story for Rolling Stone magazine where he delves into his past relationships and what really shelved his now-defunct Detox album.
Within his feature, the Doc comes clean on his 1991 alleged assault on television personality Dee Barnes and ex-girlfriend Michel’le in the 1990’s.
“I made some f*cking horrible mistakes in my life,” says Dre. “I was young, f*cking stupid. I would say all the allegations aren’t true – some of them are. Those are some of the things that I would like to take back. It was really fucked up. But I paid for those mistakes, and there’s no way in hell that I will ever make another mistake like that again.” (Rolling Stone)
Dre also spoke candidly on why his long-awaited Detox album faded to black.
“I had between 20 and 40 songs for Detox, and I just couldn’t feel it. Usually I can hear the sequence of an album as I’m going, but I wasn’t able to do that. I wasn’t feeling it in my gut. So I really thought I was done being an artist.” (Rolling Stone)
According to reports, the Doc’s overnight Compton album release will push out at least 260,000 copies in week one.
Based on early reads, here are our initial forecasts for next week’s chart. Luke Bryan’s Kill the Lights (Capitol Nashville): 325-340k albums; 340-355k SPS Dr. Dre’s Compton, A Soundtrack (Aftermath/Interscope): 260-275k albums; 290-305k SPS (30-50m streams) (HITS Daily Double)
Rap stars Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and Game all reacted to Dre blessing the hip-hop game with his first studio release since 1999’s The Chronic 2001 a few days ago.
