Chicago rap veteran Twista recently talked about the hot topic of ghostwriters and admitted relying on some help in the past.

Although he stands by his own pen game, Twist said he has used a ghostwriter a few times.

“Yeah,” he admits. “Not nothing where I’m trying to prove to you that Twista is the dopest artist or I got the best lyrics.” The creator of the Livin Legend EP adds he only used a ghostwriter on about three songs. In addition, Twista warns he still has the lyrical ability to take on anyone that may want to challenge him. (AHH)

Earlier this fall, rap star Rick Ross admitted he had ghostwritten for other musicians.

“Someone who may have another vision or just ideas that are priceless versus someone who’s like, ’I’m basing my entire career off the words I’m finna tell you right now over this 30-second period.” I’m not speaking to anybody in particular, but let’s say for instance if you was DMX and had a ghostwriter, it’d maybe change the [perception] versus if you was will.i.am. I think that’s more about the music, the records.” (TIME)

New York rap veteran Sauce Money recently shared his thoughts on ghostwriting.

“I think back in the days it would have been [a knock to have a ghostwriter.] I think back in the days emcees had more responsibilities to write they own sh*t – it’s not important right now. … Me, personally, you couldn’t really call yourself an emcee. Take for example with [music mogul Diddy]. Puff doesn’t call himself an emcee…I don’t think n*ggas was penning [Drake’s] bars like that. I think where we get it confused is we got people in the studio around that’s talented just like we are. So, we feed off of each other. So, a nigga might come up with a hook. A n*gga might finish a line for you. We’ve all done it. So, I think Drake is one of the best emcees in the game. … At the end of the day, you can’t discredit good music. Whether they write they sh*t or not, it’s good music. Me personally, I don’t have a problem.” (Doggie Diamonds)
