UGK’s Bun B has come forward to reveal his support of potential president of the United States Bernie Sanders this week.

Bun B defended his decision to publicly show support for Sanders in a new interview.

“I’m trying to let other people know from the hip-hop community that it’s OK to voice your opinion about the candidates,” Bun told The FADER in an email. “It’s important to start stating your opinion and choosing a side very early.” (The FADER)

The UGK member also spoke on the importance of people sharing their thoughts on politics.

“Right now we have so many people locked up for marijuana, even in states where it’s legal,” Bun said later. “That’s insane to me. There’s a lot that we need to start correcting. A lot of artists are afraid to voice their opinions about certain things, at the end of the day you have to decide what’s important to you.” (The FADER)

Atlanta rap veteran Killer Mike showed off his support for Senator Bernie Sanders at a campaign event last month.

Mike also publicly vouched for Senator Sanders and explained his support.

“In my heart of hearts, I truly believe that Sen. Bernie Sanders is the right man to lead this country,” the hip hop star, activist and Atlanta native said. “I have said in many a rap, I don’t trust the church or the government, a Democrat, Republican, a pope, a bishop or those other men,” Killer Mike said. “But after spending five hours tonight, after spending five hours with someone who has spent the last 50 years radically fighting for your rights and mine, I can tell you that am very proud tonight to announce the next president of the United States, Sen. Bernie Sanders.” (Huff Post)
