[With Snoop Dogg calling for a “Roots” boycott earlier this week, Doggy Style Records’ Heebz Street gives SOHH his opinion on the remake.]

I love that Snoop Dogg speaks his mind on social media. I sometimes think I speak my mind too much, too, but it’s dope to see somebody like him doing it.

I like that a lot about him and how he speaks his mind.

The thing about “Roots,” I’m a big fan of T.I. as well, but I don’t really know how I feel about the “Roots” show either. I kind of agree with Snoop because there’s so much emphasis on the slavery but I also feel like history needs to be told too. But at the same time, there’s other history on African Americans that we can learn about. We don’t really know about it whether it’s Egypt when they were all kings and queens as to always being told about slavery.

I also feel there’s some inaccuracy. They have the slave owner as an Irishman and during the time when British was occupying America, Irishman were actually treated horribly. I’m Irish, so I know this, and so that’s something I agree [with Snoop] on as well.

When I saw that, it kind of rubbed me the wrong way. To have the slave owner by Irish when, in fact, Irish people were slaves themselves.
