Last month, celebrity rep Domenick Nati denied publicized DMX arrest reports.

“It is disappointing that Infossip chose to target DMX’s love for dogs for their own benefit. DMX was not arrested last weekend and does not take part in any dog fighting. We apologize to DMX’s fans for Infossip’s attempts at tainting X’s reputation with this false story. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their positive feedback of DMX’s appearance in Top Five and invite fans to see his next concert January 9th in St. Petersburg FL.” (Statement)

The initial report claimed X was arrested with seven other people.

South California – An investigation into organized dog fighting resulted in the arrests of 8 individuals including Earl Simmons, better known by stage name as rapper DMX. According to authorities, 102 pit bulls from which 39 were still puppies were seized from the rapper’s home by an animal control unit. (Infossip)

  1. Every time I see past big time rappers releasing albums with little to no promotion, I am saddened. When I got into music around 2000, it seems every week a big album would drop. No one could wait until DMX, Jay Z, Nas, Ja Rule, Eminem and other popular rapper at the time to release an album. Something that helped rappers immensely when it came to album sales were music videos. These labels would spend 500k + on a leading single and I would say some videos actually helped some songs become big time hits. Nowadays though, things are completely different. I wouldn’t complain if it was for the better, but the deterioration in album sales, quality music videos and overall music is hard to stomach.

It’s great that some unknown rappers can release their music to the mass without the help of a major label, but that has led over-saturation. I personally prefer a smaller group of rappers making quality music than a bigger group where it becomes hard to single out quality music. I am really at a loss for words because I really don’t know where music is heading.

    • It depends on your ear game imo 2014 was the year of the hip hop purists. You had albums by the Pharoah Monch, Cilvia Demo, Logic, Ghostface and J. Cole.

      • A lot of those albums for boring fast like that ghost, monch and cole singing ass albums, I mean I can’t lie and just act like them shits were interesting for the long haul yell

    • why do people write they whole life stories on comments like we give a fuck… if u like it den dont say nothin and move on

      • Go do something with yourself. This wasn’t even an attack on anyone. Why do you feel the need to respond, I really have no clue. Some of you guys amaze me.

        • lol u do somethin wit yo self and stop trying to be a writer for xxl…. nigga wrote a who magazine talkin bout do somethin wit my self

      • I understand You struggle with concentration, You ADD crack babies all seem to have that problem yell

    • I think the major issue is illegal downloading. Record labels aren’t generating the sales they used to. Of course haters put this down to album flops and the artist not being as hot, but its easy to see what illegal downloading has done to the music/entertainment industry. Sure bootlegging, napster etc was around years ago but it wasn’t nearly as utilised as torrenting is these days.
At the end of the day if money is spent on promotion and the majority of people that get the album do it illegally then the profit margin is much smaller. That’s where fake beefs come in handy 🙂
Also I think when an ‘OG’ artist does plan to release something they don’t need to have the promotion they used to. They already have hype around them, even haters secretly want to hear what they now have to offer. I know ill grab a copy of DMX’s new album when it comes out purely from hearing about it in the above article. Cos I used to fuck with him and I still occasionally fuck with him!
      Just my 2c

  2. “It’s dark and hell is hot” arguably better than damn near every MAJOR hip hop ARTIST album in the last ten years..production,gritty street content and story telling ..X was in rare form and I don’t think too many other bodies of work from X era had a better album ..I’d choose it over
“Ready to die” and “Reasonable doubt”
Life after and death and illmatic only thing I feel can touch that in the 90s era
