Since the anticipated Andre 3000/Jimi Hendrix flick recently hit a major roadblock, SOHH decided to hit up Run-DMC's DMC to find out when his crew's much-discussed biopic heads to the big screen.

While movie plans are in the works, DMC said the main focus right now is taking their life story to the Great White Way.

“Before we do the film, we’re taking the story to Broadway,” DMC told SOHH. “We grew up big time. So when we do stuff, we gotta do it big. Yeah. We’re in discussions right now. We’re over halfway there. It’s a strong possibility that we will be taking the Run-DMC to Broadway. Then after we do the play, we’ll do the picture. We want to do Broadway first.” (SOHH)

The hip-hop pioneer also told SOHH they are currently looking for an ideal script.

“We’ve been in talks for about the last year and a half. What we have to do right now is get a script and a storyline and get some pre-prroduction going on,” DMC added. “The definite thing about it is it’s going to happen.” (SOHH)

Last summer, Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA talked about wanting to do a play based on his crew’s Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) album.

“I thought about doing ’36 Chambers.’ I dreamed I can do it on Broadway cause I make my albums like movies. People been talking to me about a lot of things. I got people reaching out to me about Carnegie Hall. I make movies now, so I get more access. It’s still in the dream world, but a lot of my dreams have come true and I’m working on this one, baby. I think in five years it could be done, actually. I was thinking about doing ’36 Chambers’ because I can combine art and film. With that album I know how to do it,” he says. “That album is like a movie for me, it’s a map also. It means a lot for the music, but it means so much more.” (The Boom Box)

In early 2009, reports of a Run-DMC biopic in the works landed online.

Notorious screenwriter Cheo Hodari Coker will adapt Bill Adler‘s “Tougher Than Leather: The Rise of Run-DMC — The Authorized Biography” for DJ Classicz president Dallas Jackson. The filmmakers will explore the history of hip-hop’s first superstars: Joseph “Run” Simmons, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell, who was shot to death in his Queens studio in 2002.
