With the new release of T.I., Ludacris, Future and Young Jeezy's "We In This B*tch" music video circulating online, SOHH recently hit up DJ Drama to get his take on putting together an all-star crew of elite Atlanta heavyweights for one track.
Reflecting on the entire anthem coming together, Drama admitted he knew there was something special in his new Atlanta-themed smash.
“It’s always the people that make the decision [on how good something is], but I definitely knew I had something special,” Drama told SOHH, “and even the way the record came together, you know, it had no other choice but to be special. From me getting the beats from Kane [Beatz], which took about a year, to the idea of the hook coming to me and giving it to Future, with the space that he’s in right now. And then me getting Tip, Jeezy and Luda on one record, what it means to Atlanta and me repping for the city and me making that vision. It definitely is a special record and I’m glad to be a part of it. It’s exciting, especially for what it means to the culture.” (SOHH)
The music video officially premiered online over the weekend.
ATL stand up. DJ Drama teams with Young Jeezy, T.I., Ludacris, and Future in the video for “We in This B*tch,” the first single off his upcoming album Quality Street Music. The Atlanta rappers perform against different colored backdrops in the Benny Boom-directed clip. “We gonna do a classic, kinda ‘Flava in Ya Ear’ throwback video,” said Boom. “We wanted to do something epic performance-wise. You got the best in ATL coming together all on one track, so we wanted to make sure that we did things phenomenally.” (Rap-Up)
Outside of ATL, Drama has kept busy by teaming up with rap star 50 Cent for their upcoming Gangsta Grillz mixtape.
“I never really, on the mixtapes, reach out and put the people I needed to put on to make it feel like it was a different energy. It was me doing what I want to do, and of course, putting the artists around me on the tape to get them that exposure,” Fif said in an interview. “This go-round, I said, ‘Because it’s Gangsta Grillz, it’s an event for me! … Gangsta Grillz is actually the biggest mixtape brand you can be associated with. Everyone else has lost the consistency.” (Shade 45)
In light of the brand’s success, Drama recently talked to SOHH about watching Gangsta Grillz excel the careers of rap’s elite, such as Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy.
“At times I do [look at the Gangsta Grillz legacy], me being a fan and a student of the game, I can’t front like it doesn’t amaze me with some of the things and the brand and what the brand and I have been able to accomplish in the game,” Drama told SOHH. “I’m very humble and I really came up loving, studying and watching the mixtape game and deejays and just hip-hop culture in general. I’ve been a part of so many mixtapes that have meant so much to so many people and so many careers. It actually pushes me to keep accomplishing more. Me and Don Trip sat down in the studio and talked about how his [Guerilla mixtape] was like an album before the album drops to him, speaking of the Gangsta Grillz.” (SOHH)
