Diddy’s Son Explains Why “Empire” Role Really Didn’t Pan Out

Bad Boy Records CEO Diddy's son Quincy has provided the back story to why he didn't sign-on to appear on Fox's hit "Empire" television show.

According to Quincy, the legal paperwork kept him from starring in the series.

“Basically, I pretty much booked the role. Dealing with a show like that, it breaks down almost like a ‘Glee.’ It breaks down theatrically and musically. Theatrically, it was an absolutely good deal. No complaints there at all. I was ready to go, but they didn’t let me know that there was a mandatory music side that came with the theatrical contract [like a 360 deal] … It just took everybody for a loop because we tried to negotiate and change a couple of things and they were like, ‘Nah.’ I was like, ‘Wait, all contracts are negotiable, right?’ and they were like, ‘Nope.’” (“The Breakfast Club”)

Details of Diddy’s issues with the popular show stemming over music rights had surfaced online a few weeks ago.

Lee Daniels’ hip-hop drama “Empire” is the hottest show on TV, and actors and musicians are lining up for roles. But Sean “Diddy” Combs pulled his adopted son, Quincy, from the cast after getting into a fight with 20th Century Fox TV over music rights, Page Six has exclusively learned. (Page Six)

Reports also claimed Quincy would have had a solid role in the show.

Sources say Quincy was guaranteed a role on the show about a family-run hip-hop record label starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, but Diddy hit the roof when he learned that his son would have to sign over a portion of his music rights in relation to the show to Fox. (Page Six)

“Empire” producer Lee Daniels recently revealed his interest in getting Hollywood icon Denzel Washington to appear on the hit series.

  1. Like Jay-Z said to Jaz, you should’ve signed that contract. Sounds like his dad was meddling like he always does and kept his son out of a golden opportunity.

  2. Sounds like Quincy lack of talent was the reason, he wasn’t offered to appear on Empire.

  3. Puff stopped him from signing a slave deal..
    Tyga said the same thing,
that the creators of Empire wanted to own all the music..

  4. If you’re trying to make a name for yourself and the entity you want to do business with will be hella good for your resume and exposure, why pretend you’re at a level you’re not? Besides, no one would even remember whatever track from this kid that would have been in the show. Stick to collecting an allowance from pops instead of trying to work.

  5. al b sure get YOUR son yo! haha,,,is he even gonna do music?,,thought he was gonna be an actor,,its wild they hosing people w/that type of deal tho,,show is successful but is krazy korny,,its all irrelevant tho,, quincy is cheesed out for life,,
