Music mogul Diddy has revealed his stance toward “Empire” amid past rumors about turning his back on the show over a music rights dispute.
Despite the speculation, Puff Daddy dished on his love for Fox’s hit series.
“I love Empire. I love the show. It’s one of my favorite shows. It’s beautiful to see the business reflected in the way that shows other people, other kinds of people, build empires too. You know, Donald Trump is not the only person who is a model mogul. That doesn’t need to be, like, the only picture of what an American mogul looks like.” (Washington Post)
Earlier this year, singer Estelle spoke to SOHH about appearing on “Empire” and Diddy keeping his son off the series.
“That’s Diddy’s option and Diddy’s business. He runs his business how he runs his business. I kind of think at the end it’s my music and my business so I’m going to do what I want to do. But the whole thing with me was having that “Conqueror” record in that moment of time for that character because it made sense. It touched more people. I think your goal should be to touch more people. It shouldn’t be to just make money off your music. I could sit there and be like, “Oh, I made my money back. We straight.” But that’s not touching people and getting it to everyone. That record is for that. That’s Diddy’s choice and he can do what he wants. Every artist has their own right and way of doing it.” (SOHH)
A few months ago, Diddy’s son Quincy spoke out on legal paperwork keeping him from starring on “Empire.”
“Basically, I pretty much booked the role. Dealing with a show like that, it breaks down almost like a ‘Glee.’ It breaks down theatrically and musically. Theatrically, it was an absolutely good deal. No complaints there at all. I was ready to go, but they didn’t let me know that there was a mandatory music side that came with the theatrical contract [like a 360 deal] … It just took everybody for a loop because we tried to negotiate and change a couple of things and they were like, ‘Nah.’ I was like, ‘Wait, all contracts are negotiable, right?’ and they were like, ‘Nope.’” (“The Breakfast Club”)
Details of Diddy’s issues with the popular show stemming over music rights had surfaced online earlier this year.
