Based on an interview with VIBE, Puff addresses critics and defends his image.

“There’s an off perception that needs to be addressed about me that I have ever robbed somebody or mistreated somebody. Or tried to be ruthless or whatever in this game. Like, all this year I’ve heard people say, ‘Where’s Carl Thomas, where’s Black Rob, where’s G.Dep? Where are these artists?’ And for some reason they go ahead and equate that, cause those artists aren’t with me, that I’ve done something wrong or malicious or conniving. It’s something that I do have a problem with because they don’t have no proof that I’ve ever done nothing like that.” (Rap Radar)

Puff also said there are misconceptions with an entertainer’s longevity in the music industry.

“[P]eople don’t understand this game that we’re in. You have a short life expectancy. It’s rare to a me, to be a Jay-Z, an LL [Cool J], a Nas. That sh*t is a rarity. That’s not even one percent of the rappers. If you look at any artists that were on Ruff Ryders, where they at? If you look at any artist that was on Def Jam at the time we started, where they at? If you look at any artist that was on Roc-A-Fella, Jive, where they at? It’s not like anything was wrong with them. It’s just that you have a four, five-year average in this game. That’s just something I wanted to address.” (Rap Radar)

Last June, former Bad Boy artist Black Rob said he was disappointed with Puff distancing himself from him while completing a jail sentence.

“Nah,” Rob said when asked if he still had a relationship with Bad Boy. “If you tell me you love me, you tell me you my man, then I’ma take that, I’ma run with that. You feel me? So when something happens to me and you turn your back on me regardless of the situation, regardless of what we’re going through. I don’t appreciate that, I don’t respect that. Because if you’re my man, I’m always gonna be your man unless you flip on me. I was under the assumption I was family. If you follow Black Rob’s career, you know I been through a whole bunch. When the album’s getting ready to come out, I’m either in jail or somewhere I’m not supposed to be. I’m not blaming Bad Boy, let me set the record straight, I’m not blaming P. Diddy — I did that, that was me. I have no hatred…” (BET)

Diddy’s ex-artist Mary Curry recently put together a book called Dance With the Devil accusing the mogul of bad business practices.

“I think the only person, man, that came away and walked off with a little bit of money is Ma$e and that’s praise God for the church, because you know on Sundays, when they be taking that offer, that’s good money. So we can’t say he’s not doing nothing. As far as any other artists, if you can tell me another Bad Boy artist that’s doing good, I’ll listen to you, other than that, I can’t waste my time trying to think ’cause I don’t think there’s one that exists.” (Daily Motion)
