Former Roc-A-Fella Records co-owner Damon “Dame” Dash has come forward to speak out on his cousin, Stacey Dash, making dicey statements about the BET network this week.

In Dash’s opinion, Stacey should have addressed her issues with BET directly with the company rather than going on Fox News.

“I think she was saying, you can’t be, ‘Yo BET we have our own Black stuff that we don’t invite White people to and then get mad when White people don’t invite us to their stuff.’ That’s how I looked at it. But then I was just like, ‘She didn’t have to say it like that or there or get paid to say it.’ I would have way preferred her, if she has that opinion, to say it on BET or have a conversation with someone Black when she was saying that and let someone Black have a conversation back with her as opposed to some White man nodding his head.” (Dr. Boyce Watkins)

In a lengthy blog post Thursday (January 21), Stacey went in on BET for publicly trying to embarrass her.

“Ever since I said THIS on Fox yesterday, Black Entertainment Television has been throwing shade. They reminded me — and the rest of America — that I appeared on a show called The Game, which appeared on BET. “Soooooo @realstaceyldash, can we get our check back… or nah?” the Instagram caption read. “#Remember #YouWereOnTheGame #AndWeDontMeanTheRapper.” Well, here’s the thing. Thank you for reminding me, since most people have never heard of that show. Why? It’s on BET. Quick. Name the top shows on BET. Drawing a blank? I think I’ve made my point. (Patheos)

Stacey also explained her biggest issue with the African American-targeted network.

BET lies to American black people by telling them that the rest of America is racist, so stick close to your own kind. Anything that promotes segregation is bad! And they’re absolutely mortified that someone like me — an independent-thinking black woman — dares call their bluff. (Patheos)

The BET network joined in on Dash’s viral celebrity responses by addressing her on Instagram this week.

  1. When have whites been black balled from BET? A white company owns it for god sakes. I’m pretty sure Justin Timberlake, Beiber, Robin Thicke and Eminem have gotten awards there,. I understand defending his cousin, but I think Dame is reaching on this one.
