Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Damon “Dame” Dash knows JAY-Z saw more than a singer in his late girlfriend Aaliyah. The hip-hop executive recently dished on Young Hov wanting to make the East Coast musician his bae.
In a recent interview, Dame dished on what sparked JAY’s interest in Aaliyah.
“He tried very hard,” Dash told us of Jay’s pursuit of Aaliyah. “I did not mean to fall in love with Aaliyah, she was just that cool. But you know, we were both going hard … everybody was trying to get to Aaliyah — it was not just Jay … She was just cool as hell … we would laugh … we never stopped hanging and that is what happened with her. There was never any obligation or any title … just liking being around somebody for who they are. I was not in love with Aaliyah through the television — I fell in love with her from hanging out and meeting her. She looked different than Aaliyah on the TV screen.” (Page Six)
Back in January, Dame Dash reflected on how much he loved Aaliyah.
The same day, various celebs remembered Aaliyah’s legacy.
A few years ago, hip-hop star Timbaland defended his publicized social media bashing of a Lifetime film based on Aaliyah’s life.
“I don’t know whose fault it is,” Tim responded when asked about the Lifetime production before saying the fact Aaliyah’s life story would be told for a made-for-TV upset him the most. “That’s what made me kinda go off the way I did. It was the first initial time and it was like, ‘Wow. This is how y’all are gonna really do it? Y’all are really gonna put this out?” I always thought it was a rumor. I thought it was a joke. Evidently it wasn’t then I started to realize, ‘Wait a minute, this is really real.’ … I shouldn’t have never paid it any attention.” (Hot 97)
