NFL superstar Colin Kaepernick‘s infectious national anthem kneeling has found its way to the NBA. Heading into the weekend, a Miami Heat singer sparked controversy by peacefully protesting at an exhibition game.

Footage has surfaced of singer Denasia Lawrence kneeling Friday (October 21) night at the team’s South Beach arena.

New reports claim Lawrence is a part-time Miami Heat employee.

The singer of the national anthem who made a social statement by kneeling during her performance Friday night at AmericanAirlines Arena is a part-time employee of the Miami Heat who works on the team’s game-night operations staff, a party familiar with the situation confirmed to the Sun Sentinel. The Miami Heat’s head coach Erik Spoelstra has since provided his take on Lawrence’s headline-generating statement.

“I just noticed when she was finishing up,” he said. “We felt as a basketball team we would do something united so that was our focus. Throughout all of this I think the most important thing that has come out is very poignant, thoughtful dialogue. We’ve had dialogue within our walls here. And hopefully this will lead to action.” (Sun-Sentinel)

Yesterday (October 21), the NBA commissioner addressed his stance on players protesting the national anthem.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver, said earlier on Friday night at an event in New York City, that he hopes players “continue to stand for the national anthem” as they have all preseason. The league does have an official rule in place calling for both players and coaches to stand during the national anthem. (NY Daily News)

  1. Why are white people even involved in Professional sports? Stop buying the tickets, shoes, and everything else that goes along with it.

    • They are involved because the White owners are making Billions off of Black athlets and white folks love to be entertained by others.

  2. I don’t understand this what does that RACIST FLAG and THAT RACIST NATIONAL ANTHEM have to do with black people?

    • Actually it has nothing to do with Black people. The problem is that White folks want Black folks to Honor a Flag and Anthem that does not Honor Black Folks and now that Black folks decided not to Honor those THINGS, White folks are Outraged. Because they Love being in control.

  3. I don’t care if he’s black white or purple. He makes tons of money playing an American game that he’s terrible at, try doing that in Syria or Iraq.

  4. Here’s the problem the constitution did not include us blacks but because it said all man are created equal we been brainwashed ever since look around they televised what cops do to US but white folks feel they have something to say about that remember this and pay attention y’all most white folks say that they aren’t racist but they vote for trump contradiction if I ever heard or seen it so I say right on to any black who kneels or doesn’t

  5. Ther no Justice in this country, so why stand to a flag that’s post to stand for what is supposed to mean but people are not treating other people for what it means that’s why we all kneel
