NFL star Colin Kaepernick can’t win. Literally. Following a tough loss yesterday (November 27) to the Miami Dolphins, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback addressed his support for late Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

During a post-game interview, Kaepernick addressed why he supported the deceased ex-president.

He spoke to reporters after the Dolphins 31-24 victory over the 49ers and expounded on his remarks, which he said were taken out of context. “I agree with the investment in education. I also agree with the investment in free universal health care as well as the involvement in helping end apartheid in South Africa,” Kaepernick said. “I would hope that everybody agrees those things are good things. And trying to push the false narrative that I was a supporter of the oppressive things that he did is just not true.” (CNN)

Last August, Colin sparked headlines after donning a Malcolm X and Fidel Castro shirt.

At that news conference Kaepernick wore a T-shirt emblazoned with photos from a 1960 meeting between Malcolm X and Fidel Castro. So after his first notable protest against what last week he called the “systematic oppression” of minorities in the United States, and saying he wants “freedom for all people,” Colin Kaepernick put on a T-shirt that featured a supportive image of one of the 20th century’s most enduring oppressors. This past weekend, rap veterans Nas and Busta Rhymes reacted to Castro’s death.

Buzz developed last Saturday (November 25) about Castro’s death.

Cuba’s former president Fidel Castro, one of the world’s longest-serving and most iconic leaders, has died aged 90. His younger brother and successor as president Raul Castro announced the news on state television. Castro toppled the government in 1959, introducing a Communist revolution. He defied the US for decades, surviving many assassination plots. His supporters said he had given Cuba back to the people. Critics saw him as a dictator. (BBC)
