Renowned news organization CNN is catching some backfire Thursday (April 30) after mistakenly identifying music executive Kevin Liles for Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons during a Baltimore, Maryland protest.

Footage of CNN’s Brian Todd and also Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera both misidentifying the music mogul has surfaced.

Within about a 10 minute span, both Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera and CNN’s Brian Todd approached Baltimore native Liles as he marched alongside New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony and insisted he was Simmons. CNN’s Todd found Liles in the crowd and initially referred to him as “Kevin” but then made this strange set of comments: “You bear a striking resemblance to Russell Simmons, you tell me you’re not him, you tell me you’re Kevin Liles, I’m not sure I believe you. We think this is Russell Simmons, Wolf.” (Mediate)

  1. Wow…really CNN? If a man tells you his name is Kevin. And your proceed to tell him he is not Kevin and that he is Russell Simmons. He was likely to get his ass beat out there. Ha! Seriously though it is pretty bad though because they are reporters and they aren’t doing the one job they went to school and studied for. Go do some research next time and stop copy pasting news stories between the big news outlets.
