While an explanation has not yet been revealed, Brown will be required to appear in court later this month.

Chris Brown lost a bid to delay a preliminary hearing in his assault case, which his attorney argued should wait for a related California Supreme Court decision. Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos, filed an appeal earlier this month to try to delay the R&B singer’s preliminary hearing, now scheduled for June 22. Court records show the appeal was rejected Tuesday (June 9); no reason was given. (Billboard)

Rihanna, who has reportedly distanced herself from Brown, has been ordered to testify at the upcoming hearing.

Rihanna was subpoenaed yesterday (June 9) to testify in the assault case against her boyfriend Chris Brown, her lawyer told People. The 21 year-old singer is scheduled to appear at a hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court on June 22. Brown’s last court appearance was in late May.

The leak of a photo showing Rihanna’s bloodied face is not relevant to the assault arrest of her former boyfriend, Chris Brown, a judge said. Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg described the leak of what appears to be a police evidence photo to the gossip site TMZ.com as “not a good thing” and possibly a crime, but she brushed aside suggestions by Brown’s attorney that it impacted evidence to be presented against the R&B singer at a June 22 preliminary hearing. Brown did not attend the hearing. The 19 year-old has pleaded not guilty to assault and criminal threats charges stemming from a Feb. 8 incident in which Rihanna, 21, claimed he beat, punched and bit her as she rode in his rented Lamborghini. The singer broke his silence on the dispute shortly afterward via an online video.

“I don’t do all this talking on the thing, it’s just some new stuff I’m doing,” Brown said. “I just wanna say ‘What up’ ’cause I ain’t been out there in a minute, but new album gonna be coming soon, we working on it right now. It’s called Graffiti, it’s got everything on it. Y’all be ready for that. I’m about to drop a single this summer for y’all, so you know, we ain’t going no where. Everybody’s that’s haters, they just been hating. All my real fans, I love y’all. I ain’t a monster.” (Justin TV)

Brown is scheduled to appear for his hearing Monday, June 22.
