R&B singer Chris Brown has publicly come forward to applaud San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The crooner reacted to the NFL stud explaining his reasoning for not standing up during the national anthem.

Colin cited the recent publicized police brutality cases for fueling his decision not to stand up at an NFL preseason game this week.

His latest refusal to stand for the anthem — he has done this in at least one other preseason game — came before the 49ers’ preseason loss to Green Bay at Levi’s Stadium on Friday night. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.” (NFL)

The 49ers have since issued a statement amid the controversy Colin has generated.

“The national anthem is and always will be a special part of the pre-game ceremony. It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect on the great liberties we are afforded as its citizens. In respecting such American principles as freedom of religion and freedom of expression, we recognize the right of an individual to choose and participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem.” (Statement)

This month, Kaepernick has worn attire which reflects his stance toward pro-Black rights.

When I made small talk with Kaepernick in the locker room after last weekend’s preseason game in Denver, he was wearing a black baseball cap with a large, silver X in the middle — the exact hat that I wore during the early ‘90s after Spike Lee’s biopic on Malcolm X was released. Kaepernick sported the same hat during his postgame press conference Friday. (USA Today)

  1. It’s so much bigger than the small view CK has of America. This hate has to stop. There are people everyday who protect this great nation and you do not deserve to step on that for any of your selfish reasons. Don’t like this country, move. Don’t sit there and collect your millions of dollars while you spit in the face of many others in this country defend your right to play a game. All respect lost for Colin Kapernick. At least we all know Chris Brown was an idiot beforehand.
