Hollywood actor/rapper Donald “Childish Gambino” Glover is reportedly headed to the big screen in the upcoming film Magic Mike XXL.
According to reports, Gambino will join a cast which already includes Hollywood stud Channing Tatum.
Joining Banks and the previously revealed Amber Heard, Jada Pinkett Smith and Andie MacDowell are Donald Glover and Michael Strahan, all of which are playing new roles in ‘Magic Mike 2′ (officially titled ‘Magic Mike XXL’). Of course, Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez and Gabriel Iglesias are returning, too, as production kicked off today. Unfortunately, Matthew McConaughey will not be back as Dallas, given scheduling conflicts. (Screen Crush)
Outside of all this, Childish Gambino dished on his problems with the rap game right here…
Recently, Gambino said hip-hop had lost its essence and purpose.
“We never wanted to make a rap album. I’ve talked about this before,” Gambino explained in an interview. “Rap is done. Rap is done. I love hip-hop, I love rap, but the thing it was supposed to do it doesn’t do anymore. I love it as music. It’s the same thing as like jazz. It’s like jazz, when it was doing what it was supposed to do, and people still listen to music now but it’s not doing the social work it’s supposed to do anymore. … I would like to be a leader of the new movement going on now.” (Hot 97)
The buzzing hip-hop artist also discussed his parallels to rap star Drake’s career path.
“Drake doesn’t get asked, ‘Are you hard enough?’ or anything like that even though Drake’s life is really my life,” he added. “I really grew up in the ‘hood. I get it, I’m wearing a grandma sweater. But I am also a black male. I still have to wear this grandma sweater when I go see my grandma in the Bronx, who lives in a sh*tty neighborhood. Where my cousin just got shot and stabbed twice in the neck hustling there.” (Hot 97)
Following a recent performance, Gambino revealed his interest in doing a joint project with Chicago’s Chance The Rapper.
One of the hip hop collaborations of the year could be on the way after Childish Gambino hinted about an EP with Chance The Rapper. After performing together at The Governors Ball in New York, where Chance debuted a verse on their collaborative effort ‘The Worst Guys’, Childish, real name Donald Glover, took to Twitter to make the announcement. “now that chance finally released his verse on “worst guys”, maybe he can hurry up and finish the rest of our EP. #hinthint” (Mix Mag)
