New York personalities Charlamagne Tha God and Mysonne are feeling a certain type of way about last night’s Grammy Awards show. The duo have taken to social media to rally up support and attention for music mogul JAY-Z‘s 4:44 album.
Charlamagne went to his Instagram page this past Sunday (January 28) to address his personal need for JAY to realize he put out the true best album of 2017.
Mysonne took things a bit further and explained his issue with the Grammys not recognizing JAY-Z.
“I think at this point we should realize platforms like the Grammys and the Oscars don’t celebrate our culture especially the positive representation of our culture. When you look and realize JAY-Z is one of the biggest artists in hip-hop, receives eight nominations for Grammys and didn’t get one for an album that celebrated black entrepreneurship and black education – when you realize they don’t celebrate that, then you gotta make a conscious decision on what you support. What do we push to the forefront? Do we keep allowing them to dictate our narrative and tell us – what type of music we should listen to or what type of music we should make or do we realize the blueprint that JAY-Z is following and setting and precedents that he’s setting, that this is what we should be doing? … We can’t look for validation from the Grammys and Oscars. We gotta create platforms.”
Last night, Grammys winner Kendrick Lamar sparked a slew of celebrity reactions from his heart-pounding live performance.
