New York rapper Cardi B is reaching all new heights. The hip-hop newcomer is going more than global when her presence is felt in a hilarious new Super Bowl LII commercial for Amazon’s Alexa.
Cardi and a grip of other high-profile celebs dominate the must-see ad set to run this Sunday.
Cardi B is the star of Amazon’s new Super Bowl ad. In the spot, she auditions to be the new Alexa—the voice of the Amazon Echo. One user asks Cardi, “How far is Mars?” She responds, “How far is Mars? Well, how am I supposed to know? I never been there!” Later, Cardi’s asked to “play some country music.” Instead, the guy gets “Bodak Yellow.” Other celebrities in the Amazon ad include Rebel Wilson, Anthony Hopkins, and Gordon Ramsay. Earlier in the week, Cardi came forward and exploded over a rumor about not wanting to show the Make-A-Wish crew any love during the pre-Grammys.
A few days ago, Cardi B unleashed some emotions about new fans thinking she has had overnight success.
“Let me tell y’all something. I know a lot of y’all is new fans so y’all are gonna have to scroll down, scroll down a little bit to 2014, 2015 and see the type of sh*t that I was on. I worked my a** for this sh*t. There was a point when I was on ‘Love & Hip Hop’ that I had $200,000 in my bank account and I went all the way down to $20,000 because everything I was investing [was] on my music. I went to DJ Envy’s house and was like, ‘Knock, knock. Yeah, can you listen to my mixtape sir?’ On my first mixtape, I invested in my tour. I invested all my money and my sh*t, just me and my manager working hard promoting my sh*t. I did a whole lot of free showcases for the frizzy. Even when I got signed, Atlantic was going around and asking people for features for me. They were trying to charge me $80,000, $50,000, they used to tell them, ‘Don’t sleep on her.’ And we really worked our a** off to be here. So for people that look for excuses why I’m here, it really blows my f*cking mental.”
