Rap newcomer Capital Steez has reportedly passed away at the age of 19 leaving many notable hip-hop entertainers at a loss for words.
Details of his unexpected passing surfaced online Monday (December 24).
Capital Steez, an up-and-coming rapper in the Brooklyn-based Pro Era collective, died on Monday morning. Steez, real name Jamal Dewar, was 19. The rapper’s friend and collaborator Joey Bada$$ announced the news on Twitter, saying, “This unfortunate xmas eve… Lost a best friend, a brother, a pro, a partner. Letting go is never easy.” Bada$$ goes on to say that “part of me doesn’t believe this.” Other members of New Era to post comments include Chuck Strangers and CJ Fly. This week the rap collective released the mixtape, “PEEP: The Aprocopalypse” on Cinematic Affairs. Label CEO Johnny Shipes also confirmed the death on Twitter, writing “R.I.P. STEEZ.” (Billboard)
Moments before midnight, Steez released an open-ended final Twitter post.
He was 19 years old and at press time his cause of death is still unknown, but his last tweet, which came at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday read: “The end,” leading many to believe that he took his own life. (MTV)
Producer 9th Wonder paid his respect to the aspiring hip-hop artist Monday morning.
“Rest in Peace Capital Steez of the Pro Era Crew…..God Bless his family…,” Wonder tweeted. (9th Wonder’s Twitter)
Young Money‘s Jae Millz could not believe the news of Capital’s passing.

Hot 97 radio personality Peter Rosenberg sent his respect to the late teenage emcee.
