Last night, Johnson shocked the sports world by announcing his decision to the masses.
Magic has spent thepast two years with an executive position with the iconic franchise.
The Hall of Famer returned to the Lakers in an executive role in February 2017, replacing Mitch Kupchak and Jim Buss in the front office. He has been warned or fined multiple times for tampering, including comments on Paul George and more recentlyGiannis Antetokounmpo. Meanwhile, the Lakers haven’t tangibly improved under his leadership, as they missed the playoffs for the sixth straight season. He signed LeBron James in free agency, but he was unable to surround him with other stars. (Bleacher Report)
Some sports analysts have narrowed inon what contributions Johnson made during his tenure.
Since taking over as president of the Lakers, Magic Johnson never fully committed to the job. Often he was traveling and away from the team. His office hours were limited. He didn't do a lot of scouting. Running an NBA team takes a tremendous commitment of time and energy.
