Music veteran Busta Rhymes can breathe a sigh of relief after having a publicized summer arrest case’s criminal charges dropped this week.
According to reports, Busta agreed to terms in a New York court Friday (November 6) to avoid being hit with a serious charge.
“After an extensive investigation, including interviewing witnesses, viewing the video and visiting the scene, and based on the limited nature of the injury, the people at this time are moving to reduce the sole count of assault in the 2nd degree to a misdemeanor,” said Assistant District Attorney Danielle Coffey. The 43-year-old hip-hop star, who had completed three anger-management sessions, copped to harassment as a violation in exchange for a dismissal of the more serious charge. (NY Post)
Last summer, rap star 50 Cent poked fun at Busta’s New York gym altercation.
Busta avoided releasing a press release and spoke via his Instagram page in early August over the arrest.
The New York native’s arrest details emerged online hours prior.
The 43-year-old rapper and actor, whose given name is Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr., was arrested around 8:30 p.m. at the Steel Gym at 143 W. 23rd St., sources said.
Sources said Busta Rhymes got into a fight with a fellow gym goer, and allegedly threw a container of Lean Body Protein drinks at the victim. The victim refused medical attention at the scene, sources said. (CBS Local)
