A Tribe Called Quest group member Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor has reportedly passed away this week at the age of 45 following a series of publicized health complications.

The rap veteran’s lost his life sometime Wednesday (March 23).

Rolling Stone has confirmed the rapper’s death, though an official statement has yet to be released. While the cause of death has yet to be announced, Taylor had had health issues for years, undergoing a kidney transplant in 2008 to deal with a longtime battle with Type 1 diabetes. (Rolling Stone)

Phife had been known to have a few publicized health problems.

The Rolling Stones has exclusively confirmed the death of Malik Isaac Taylor who was battling multiple health issues, including diabetes, and also had a kidney transplant. However, the exact cause of his death is not known at this time. (PIX 11)

Taylor is most known for putting together his highly-respected A Tribe Called Quest hip-hop group.

Born Malik Isaac Taylor in 1970, he co-founded the philosophically-focused rap group in 1985 with his classmates Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Their biggest hit came in 1991, with the single Can I Kick It? The band recently reformed to perform the song on Jimmy Fallon’s US chat show, as they marked the 25th anniversary of their debut album People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. (BBC)
