Former Death Row Records owner Marion “Suge” Knight is going to prison for nearly 30 years. The hip-hop mogul has received a 28-year sentence for his fatal 2015 hit-and-run.

According to reports, Knight appeared in court today (October 4) and received his fate.

Former rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight was formally sentenced on Thursday to 28 years in prison for a 2015 hit and run that left one man dead and another man injured. The 53-year-old former producer and co-founder of gangsta rap label Death Row Records last month pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter for businessman Terry Carter’s death in Compton, California. Victim Terry Carter‘s family reportedly appeared in court during the sentencing.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ronald S. Coen handed down the sentence as expected Thursday for running over and killing businessman Terry Carter outside a Compton burger stand in 2015. Members of Carter’s family addressed the court including daughter Crystal, who called Knight “a disgusting, selfish disgrace to the human species.” Knight avoided a murder trial that was about to begin when he agreed two weeks ago to plead no contest to voluntary manslaughter and accept the sentence. Carter’s family members also came forward to speak on the aftermath.

“He never got out of the car, to see if my uncle was okay. This has to be in my family forever. Nothing will be the same. Not even an apology, condolences have been made to my family,” Carter’s niece tearfully stated. Knight, wearing an orange jumpsuit and glasses, looked on, expressionless. Family members voiced their anger at Knight and said they are haunted by the video of the incident. (CNN)

Suge’s son Suge J. Knight has also addressed his dad’s situation.

“I just don’t want to give up right now. With all those health issues, I’m very worried about my father because he’s a strong dude but he’s human. The more he’s in there, it’s stress that’s causing his health to be f*cked up, or messed up, excuse my language. It’s set up for him not to make it out. And that’s just the sad part.” (TMZ)
