Hip-hop veteran MC Supreme has reportedly been killed after being involved in a fatal car crash this past weekend in California.

According to reports, the wreck took place in Malibu on Saturday (June 13).

The Los Angeles County coroner’s officials said 47-year-old Dewayne Coleman was killed Saturday when a pickup truck slammed into parked car on the shoulder Pacific Coast Highway. Coleman was pronounced dead at the scene; a woman passenger in his car taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries. (Associated Press)

The late rapper’s sister has confirmed the shocking passing.

Although authorities haven’t released the identity of the man killed in the crash, Coleman’s death was confirmed by his sister to City News Service. “He was a positive person, dedicated to working with young people,” in keeping them away from gangs, said Irene Coleman. (LAist)

Although the crash’s cause is still being investigated, an arrest has already been made.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as 34-year-old Philip Torres II, sustained minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and DUI. Supreme is most known for his contributions to hip-hop in the 1990’s.

Coleman released “Black in America” in 1990 on the compilation album “We’re All in the Same Gang.” It also contained the anti-violence hit that shares the album name by the West Coast Rap All-Stars. (Variety)
