New York rapper Bobby Shmurda‘s request to taste freedom before starting a publicized trial in a drug and weapons possession case has been denied today (October 5).

According to reports, Judge James Burke set a trial date for February 22 and shut down Shmurda attorney Alex Spiro‘s bail request.

Special Narcotics Prosecutor Nigel Farinha argued that there had already been at least four bail applications that had been denied and that the case had only gotten stronger. He cited Shmurda’s ties to Florida and net worth of half a million dollars. Burke denied the bail request. (Page Six)

Reports of the rapper’s girlfriend being arrest made headlines in late June.

The 20-year-old Shmurda, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, was busted June 21 after a guard allegedly saw Kimberly Rousseau, 18, pull a black latex glove balloon wrapped in black electrical tape out of her bra and hand it to him. The guard opened the balloon and found a “sharpened metal object” according to a criminal complaint. (NY Daily News)

Prosecutors reportedly wanted Shmurda to agree to nearly ten years behind bars in a weapons case.

The rapper dressed in an orange jumpsuit did not speak speak or acknowledge his family members or Epic Records executives (including label president, Sylvia Rhone) in attendance. Prosecutors reminded the defense that Bobby has a standing offer of an eight-year sentence for his role as the “mastermind” behind the GS9 collective that combined are facing over 100 charges of assault, murder and more. G-Unit’s Lloyd Banks talked to SOHH about Shmurda’s situation earlier this year.

“I think that them coming in with that raw energy, you got to be on the same radar regardless. You are young, black and not supposed to be here. I was fortunate enough to get out of it, I didn’t sit too long any time I was locked up. But at the same time, it’s not nothing really to talk highly about. I just hope that they can get through that situation okay.” (SOHH)

  1. Damn. They want to crusify this guy. Murderers get out on bail and he’s being held like he’s El Chapo

    • Right. I had to go back and read up on what he arrested for, because they trying him like he killed a couple cops or something. Shits crazy.

  2. They get more publicity and make their names bigger off of this case and probably get more funding, for this high profile arrest. So it benefits them to keep him and in the longer run it probably helps his street cred and rep in his music, so he will benefit off of this also. so its possibly a win-win situation depends on how you look at it.

    • WTF… How does this benefit him??? HE IS IN JAIL… HAVE YOU EVER been in JAIL – NOT a vacation!!! This is a TRAVESTY that they are denying bail … especially for the reason you highlighted above.

      • Yes, been there done that, so I know they dont give a f about him, but it could benefit him in the long run, you gotta stay positive in these situations and look at ALL angles, before you speak.

        • You can stay positive … but JAIL will not benefit him. He is NOT a superstar rapper that will go down as a legend. He has one hit – so therefore when his 15 minutes is up he will be label as a felon – and probably be financially stricken. PAL Real RAP is NOT a Gimmick – you can fabricate greatness.
